Did A Tornado Hit Downtown Atlanta During SEC Championship?

While watching the SEC Championship held in the Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta a funky thing happened. Reportedly a tornado hit the area and caused some damage. These videos capture the possible Atlanta Tornado as major parts of the city were caught on film after the damage.

Initial reports claimed it was just bad weather doing the damage and no tornado was officially marked as making contact with the ground. However, watch these videos below and you'll see most of them refer to an actual tornado. Take a look at this video of the damage done at the CNN Center.

Mississippi State vs Alabama was halted for awhile due to the weather. During this time the game stopped as the roof of the Georgia Dome literally rippled from the high winds. The metal girders shock violently and debris started to fall to the ground. Almost half of the Georgia Dome was screened off to fit in the crowd for a basketball game but it was clear on the game's broadcast that parts of the ceiling in the fenced off area were falling off.

People in the Dome did slightly panic as the girders above shook and the broadcasters even noted that there was almost a stampede of people in the upper decks who were closest to the destruction but that nothing really happened.


Georgia Dome Tornado

Miss St and Alabama ended up finishing their game after a long delay but the game after was postponed. We'll find out tomorrow how much damage was done to the Georgia Dome and surrounding areas.
