Good Luck Chuck - Jessica Alba Visits Knoxville

Regal Cinemas hosted another fundraiser to benefit local children's charities by screening a new movie complete with stars at the gigantic Pinnacle Theater at Turkey Creek. Previous years have seen the cast of 'Dukes of Hazzard' which brought local boy Johnny Knoxville home with Jessica Simpson and Stifler. Last year, Will Ferrell, who is tall, screened 'Talladega Nights.'

This year brings the screening of 'Good Luck Chuck' staring Jessica Alba and Dane Cook. We were able to attend the function and down some food and drink before waiting 2 hours for Cook and Alba to arrive. Neither one of us had high expectations for the film but were looking forward to getting a nice view of Jessica Alba and let's just say it was worth the wait.

The two arrived and spoke a little about nothing in particular. Cook was lively and entertaining as expected and Alba was as gorgeous as advertised.

Although Jessica Alba looked a little bored at times by the whole ordeal you could easily see her checking us out in the crowd. Her eyes were telling us to meet her after the movie. We easily got the message. Later, we discovered her security did not get that memo and enjoyed smacking us around trying to prove their point.

On to the movie. We expected mediocrity and we got it. If you are into the spastic frat boy humor of Dane Cook than you might enjoy 'Chuck.' If you are into looking at Jessica Alba than you will definitely like it. If you are looking for a formulaic teen comedy than you will enjoy it, too.

'Chuck' tries to play itself off as a romantic date movie. Let's just say if you're bringing your girl to 'Good Luck Chuck' than expect lots of nudity and penis jokes. We didn't have a problem with that but if you're taking a cute girl to the movie she may not enjoy 90 minutes of frat-boy humor.

Keep your expectations low and you'll enjoy 'Good Luck Chuck.' Overall, the movie is generic and predictable. Cook and Alba do good jobs with a paper-thin script and add some great moments with the physical humor such as the flying dental tools and jump starting Dane Cook as seen in the trailer. However, this is also one of those movies where most of the punchlines are in the trailer which is disappointing.

Also expect lots of nudity from everyone including Cook but not Alba. That sucks! There's a quick sideboob of Jessica Alba and there are also a couple of scenes where she's rocking her penguin panties, but for the most part its big breasted women and Cook you'll see a lot of. Let's just say 'Chuck' definitely earns his 'R' rating and it's not for the violence.

Cook doesn't evolve much from 'Employee of the Month' here but he is enjoyable. Alba is passable at the comedy. Together they have a decent chemistry but the movie is so typical it takes away from the overall experience.

Cook's sidekick, Stu (Dan Fogler), is by far the films weakest part. Although he rattles off a couple of good lines, there are dozens of times he leaves you wondering if someone else, hell Louis C.K. for that matter, could have stepped up and provided a better comic relief. The main problem with Fogler's character is he forces his character way too much. Fogler is just too annoying unfunny to try to hold his own as a comic relief.

Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.
